Open to all parents of children enrolled in Saint James School, the Home School Association serves as a liaison between the school and the community. It is governed by an Executive Committee that includes six officers: President, Co-Vice Presidents of Student and Family Programs, Vice President of Spirituality and Social Concerns, Secretary and
Treasurer. Dedicated to supporting the best interests of the school and our children, the HSA runs various events for the benefit of the students, the faculty and staff, or the school as a whole. There are two major fundraisers held each year: the Gift Wrap Sale in the fall and Night Under the Stars in the spring. Night Under the Stars, affectionately referred to by the acronym NUTS, is the school’s primary fundraising event, offering a silent auction and a live auction as well as great food and other entertainment. Participation by members of the parish family and the Somerset Hills community guarantees the success of this event both financially, for the benefit of the school, and socially, for the enjoyment of the attendees.
In addition to its fundraising responsibilities, the HSA is dedicated to inspiring a Christ-centered community that instills Gospel values nurtured by belief, attitude and behavior manifested in social concern.
The HSA also puts care and planning into the organizational duties that help make the children’s experience at Saint James School the best it can be. Examples are organizing classroom mothers and the parents who oversee recess and snack duties.
HSA parents work closely with the school administration not only to organize school events and activities but also to facilitate communication with the school families.
There are four meetings of the entire Home School Association during each academic year. All parents of Saint James School students are encouraged to attend and to participate in this important facet of their children’s education.
And all thy children shall be taught of the Lord; and great shall be the peace of thy children. — Isaiah 54:13
