Scripture is a letter written by our Heavenly Father to his children for the purpose of revealing Himself to them. -- Pope Leo XIII
For some people, the Holy Bible evokes feelings of warmth and wisdom, but for many Catholics today, the Bible’s chronology can be confusing and its meaning hard to grasp. Through study, discussion and prayer we can greatly improve our ability to hear the voice of God through the words of the Bible.
Here at the Church of Saint James we are blessed to have a highly successful Bible Study program. The Saint James Bible Study offers two sessions. The Morning Bible Study, entering its fifth year, meets every Thursday morning from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Formerly just for women, the Morning Bible Study will offer a class just for men, starting in September. The Evening Co-Ed Bible Study was formed two years ago in response to tremendous interest expressed by those who could not attend the morning study. The evening session meets Tuesday evenings from 7:15 p.m. to 9:15 pm. Both sessions are open to Saint James parishioners 18 years and older, and to adults from surrounding Catholic parishes.
The Saint James Bible Study features small group discussion and DVD lessons. Bible Study groups set out to build a sense of fellowship and respect as individuals share answers and personal experiences. By fostering knowledge and understanding of God’s Word as it applies to each person’s life, Saint James Bible Study groups deepen the spiritual lives of their members.
For just as from the heavens the rain and snow come down and do not return there until they have watered the earth, making it fertile and fruitful, giving seed to him who sows and bread to him who eats. So shall my word be that goes forth from my mouth. It shall not return to me empty, but shall do my will, achieving the end for which I sent it. — Isaiah 55:10-11
